Concrete floors are hard on the feet. Many occupations that take place on concrete also have steel toe requirements. These types of companies are generally industrialized warehouses or manufacturing plants but are not limited to those. Anyone who spends several hours a day walking or standing on concrete can attest to the stress it causes on the feet. Furthermore, concrete is fast becoming a popular type of flooring in homes.

Lack of shock absorption is one of the greatest causes of injuryfrom concrete floors; and these injuries aren't just limited to the feet. Injuries can be mild, moderate and severe, sometimes lasting only a short while. However, continued standing or repeated walking on concrete may lead to permanent damage and a lifetime of pain.

Foot & Leg Pain : As stated earlier, lack of shock absorption is a major culprit in bodily injuries. Literally pounding the pavement day after day puts extreme wear and tear on the feet. Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spurs, Stress Fractures, etc. are often associated with concrete flooring foot pain. Foot pain is bad enough but with repeated stress that pain may radiate up the legs and knees. Over time, many people begin to suffer from muscle pain in the lower legs anddebilitating joint pain in the knees.

Back Pain : Continuous standing on concrete can do a number on the lower back. Foot and leg pain may continue upward into the hips and back. Concrete flooring is hard on the hips and may lead to arthritis anddegeneration of the socket itself. Muscle damage in the lower back can be permanent if not properly treated. Always see your doctor if you're suffering and in pain. Even a dull, nagging ache that seems to be only a "nuisance" may be indicative of a more serious underlying issue.

The best advice for working on concrete is to lead with a good offense! The right type of shoes can go a long way to saving you pain.
Make sure the shoe fits! Many people buy too small or too large. Proper fit is important.
